Wellbeing is a powerful word, concept, and sense-experience. It’s one of the words I consciously started using, and concepts I started exploring, more mindfully a few years ago. I continue to explore and practice into that!

And yet the actual experience, feeling, sense of wellbeing can seem very, very fleeting, and very much dependent on outside forces and challenging circumstances.

Though it can seem so, it’s neither fleeting nor dependent on anything outside of us. Wild, right?

Rick Hanson focuses on wellbeing in his most recent e-message. I’ve appreciated Rick’s work for quite awhile now — his is among several contemporary neuroscience writers and researchers that I follow.

His books include Buddha’s Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love and Wisdom, among others, and he puts out “The Wise Brain Bulletin,” too. His most recent book — just released — is Resilient: How to Grow an Unshakeable Core of Calm, Strength, and Happiness.

It’s not surface-skimming, quick-fix stuff that tastes or feels good for two seconds and then leaves you craving for more, more more.

And yet it’s accessible, and even more relevant, and potentially satisfying, than the quick fixes.

That makes it very aligned ‘intel’ for the Energies of Now, just after the New Moon, with Mercury having just stationed forward after its retrograde, and Saturn and Pluto both entering their retrograde transits.

There’s nothing ‘quick fix’ about Saturn or Pluto, but their fruits are long-lasting.

(If you’ve got self-facets in Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn, you may be feeling a bit more pressure that challenges your sense of wellbeing, but it’s the optimal time to lean into wellbeing.)

In his recent e-message, Rick shares a very short video message about wellbeing.

He says, “These days there is a lot of talk about well-being, but what is it really, why does it matter, and how can we get more of it? Also, why is happiness fleeting for most of us, and what can we do to make it last, day to day, moment to moment?”

Here’s what he says about just why wellbeing is important (and how we can strengthen our own innate sense of wellbeing):

There are practices that support these shifts — including a sense of wellbeing and resourcefulness that’s backed by the neuroscience research.

And we know that the words we use, the stories can tell, make a big difference, too. The beauty of it is, as any writer can tell you, those words and stories can be ‘rewritten’ too.

Big Love,

Jamie
