“We live in a sea of physical and mental forces that affect our moods, actions and decisions. These forces are subtle and in a constant state of flux.”

Energy Hygiene & Awareness for These Wild Times We Live In.

Water metaphors actually work pretty well for understanding how we might experience these fluctuating energies, particularly those of us who are more sensitive to them.

Here are a couple of examples.

Imagine a person is swimming in the ocean at the beach, and gets gobsmacked by a sudden wave — like one of the ’sneaker waves’ that seem to come out of nowhere … something coastal Northern Californians might be familiar with.

Having been surprised and thrown by the sudden wave, she takes in a gulp or two of it, and breathes some of it in as well.

For a few minutes, she’s completely off-balance, and feels a moment or two of panic as a result. Having breathed in a bit of the water, she’s unable to breathe normally while she struggles to cough it out and regain the ability to breathe more easily.

After a bit, between survival reactions and whatever calm she’s able to manage, she finds her breathe and her feet and makes her way back out of the water, sits down on the beach and calms herself further.

In another example, a channel swimmer swims around Manhattan and and perhaps swims through areas of polluted waters. She’s had to take precautions before even getting into the water — various inoculations against certain known pollutants, and applying a layer of oil to her skin, to keep the worst at bay.

Even so, during the swim, she inevitably takes in some of the polluted water. Yuck.

From Water to Shared Energy & Psychic Soup

We might say that energy from the ‘psychic soup’ works similarly. There’s a quality to it, for better or worse. If it’s more polluted, whether with myriad thought-forms of angst, sadness, anger, or envy, say, that’ll be what a more empathically or psychically sensitive person will take in.

I shared this from Psychologist and Sufi Teacher Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee in a recent Sophia’s Children post:

“Just as there is physical pollution, so there is a type of psychic pollution in the world. And that is the psychic soup in which we live.”

“The more open and the more sensitive and the more evolved you are, and if you’re really aware of your instinctual nature and the earth, you get really clobbered. And what you don’t realize is that it’s not your problem. And the harder you work on it, the more you suffer.”

Those who are wired in a way other than clairsentiently or empathically sensitive may have other types of challenges. (In the astrology chart, this might be hinted at by more Air and Fire in the chart, or more Water and Earth.)

While these Clairs may not have the ‘full-body’ and solar-plexus sensitivity of the clairsentient empath, they may have clairaudient or clairvoyant sensitivity and pick up the ‘psychic pollution’ as a marked shift in the quality and/or amount of mental chatter, or a flurry of images (like visioning, but not their own and not particularly positive), for example.

For someone who has a combination of ‘Clair’ capacities, it might be a combination — the full buffet of mental and sensory ‘sneaker wave’.

There are energy & psychic hygiene and mastery practices for each of us, according to our particular ‘wiring’.

Regardless, those who are naturally wired as clairsentient or empathically sensitive, we’ll either be:

One, in a regular state of ‘clobbered’ — taking in ‘sneaker waves’ of psychic pollution and not realizing that what we think, feel, or sense is not always generated from within.

Or two, we’ll learn and begin to master an awareness of how this type of energy works, and build a repertoire of ways to discern, clear, and inoculate ourselves to some degree with various energy hygiene and mastery practices.

When it’s discombulating enough, and we’re fortunate to discern the intuitive nudges, we’ll usually start looking towards the second option … awareness and increasing mastery.
