Candlemas-Imbolc Advent – Replenishing the Well With the February Mysteries

Black (Madonna) Friday

Subtle and Overt Attacks on the Goddess, Nature, and the Sacred Feminine

There are so many good points in this post from Laura Bruno, that rather than excerpt and link, I’ll just let you dive in and see for yourself.

I’ve noticed this very phenomenon she’s highlighting in recent weeks (and even months) as well, where even in the (so called) consciousness- and engaged-spirituality communities we see not-so-veiled attacks on the Divine Feminine.

So I don’t know what’s up with this trend (because we’ve been there, done that … not that it’s ever gone away). The re-emerging Feminine must really be gaining ground if such attacks are coming from these corners.

Fellow oracles, astro-intuitive kindreds, and keepers of the flame — what’s your sense and your observations?

Here’s Laura’s post – so important for all of us who have been devoted to reclaiming, embodying, and midwifing the re-emerging Feminine and also lifting the lid off the smear- and false-history campaigns (see the previous Sophia’s Children post, Un-Erasing ‘Women Who Know’ for more on that topic!).

Read on for Laura’s post, and share your thoughts.

Big Love,
Jamie

Laura Bruno's Blog

In an uncharacteristic pattern, I’ve been working on this post for a couple weeks. Normally, if I don’t finish in one go, then the post gets deleted or forever floats in limbo. I signed on yesterday with the intent to delete this one as too obvious, too alarmed, or too unnecessary. Then, I stumbled upon so many attacks on Nature, the Goddess and everything associated with the feminine that I realized I needed to finish this piece and post it. You see, the attacks weren’t just coming from men and the military industrial complex; they were also spouting from the mouths and keyboards of people who usually recognize and honor the Sacred and Divine Feminine, especially the Mother Goddess energies responsible for creation, seasons, nurturing, and growth. I post the following links as examples of just how insidious and desperate the attempts have become to eradicate the very principle of…

Is Matriotism the Future of the Divine Feminine?

Demeter Mourning for Persephone, 1906, by Evelyn de Morgan.
Demeter Mourning for Persephone, 1906, by Evelyn de Morgan.

Thanks to Laura Bruno for pointing the way to this excellent article in Waking Times, “Is Matriotism the Future of the Divine Feminine?” by Ethan Smith and Lucy Morales.

This is an important read and reflection for anyone who’s concerned about the horrible, Life-diminishing imbalances that have been crawling their way across the globe like some sort of living toxic-tar, whether that be what the authors call the poisonously violent “radical patriarchy” or the co-opted, “controlled opposition” feminism that the authors note and define.

It’ll also be an encouraging read and reflection for the many of us who’ve been changing our ways, radically simplifying, living into these questions, reclaiming the Sacred Feminine and thus tending the fertile ground for the Sacred Masculine, and embodying and seeding the shift to a healthier, more respectful balance.

Laura also mentions one of my Feminine Mojo Show episodes — series, actually — that I did a few years ago with John Lash. Though I don’t resonate with some of John’s more recent work, I still highly recommend his book, Not in His Image, some of the great resources on Metahistory.org, and the first couple of Feminine Mojo shows we did together on the Sophia Myths, Mysteries, and Gifts to us.

You’ll find the link in Laura’s post, but do click through to the Waking Times article she mentions as well — it invites some perspective-shifting.

Have a look; see what stirs in you.

Big Love,
Jamie

Laura Bruno's Blog

I’m happy to see a creeping acknowledgement of the importance of a major shift in gender relations and a return to appreciating the Goddess energies. This latest post on Waking Times asks important questions and explores evidence of a much more universal Mother culture than modern society likes to admit. As the world teeters on the brink of annihilation, may more and more people begin to recognize this much needed shift.

Is Matriotism the Future of the Divine Feminine?

This post also reminds me of an old John Lash interview on Feminine Mojo with Sophia’s Children blogger and Goddess lover Jamie Walters. I cannot say that I endorse everything John Lash has moved into in recent years; however, this 2011 talk beautifully articulates why –for the survival of humanity and any semblance of a healed, livable Earth — we need to reconnect with the living energies and Divine Wisdom…

Imbolc and Bhrìghde’s Creative Well

‘Tis the time and the Season, so here’s some updated Imbolc-Candlemas inspiration to take you into this deeply creative, deeply Feminine time of the year.

Imbolc-Candlemas is celebrated during the first few days of February, and the exact-point occurs when the Sun is at 15 degrees of Aquarius, which often occurs sometime around February 6th or 7th.

This year, though, it’s right now – February 3rd, so Imbolc-Candlemas ‘thin time’, as the ancients would have seen it, waxes into today and wanes as the Sun continues its journey past the power-gate.

This also initiates what the late mythic astrologer Steve Nelson called the Candlemas Hora … a holy time. He said:

“This Mid-Aquarius “power gate” begins the Candlemas Hora, a 15-day period from Feb 3 to 18 when the nature of the New Year becomes illuminated and the vital energies of Nature stir to life.”

Read on to stir the Divine Flame within you — and the Wise Guide and Keeper of the Flame that you may be — in sync with the meaning of this season.

If you’re in the Southern Hemisphere, you’ll be at the midpoint of Summer Solstice and Autumn Equinox, which is Lughnasadh. You can read about that here.

Even if you’re in Lughnasadh time, if you’ve got interests in the deep Feminine, the Black Madonna, and the associated gifts of deeper and awakening Wisdom, you’ll enjoy the Imbolc-Candlemas post for those goodies.

To clarify & activate your role for these times, as a Wise Guide or Keeper of the Flame, have a look at the current featured offerings or send me an email (jamie ‘at’ sophias-children ‘dot’ com).

Big Love, Big Heart.

Magdalene with the Smoking Mirror, Georges De La Tour, 1640 Magdalene with the Smoking Mirror, Georges De La Tour, 1640

We enter into the Mysteries of Imbolc, Candlemas, or Fèill Bhrìghde.

Imbolc or Fèill Bhrìghdewere some of the names given to this time of year by the Gaelic-Celtic ancestors, as they marked the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox, and later is was called Candlemas or Fèill Brìghde.

Other cultures and traditions celebrated and honored the turning of the Seasonal wheel by other names.

I feel a special affinity for this time of year, since I was born at Imbolc-Candlemas, with Sirius and Orion visible in the Winter night sky.

For some of our ancestors, that reminder of coming Spring (and fading Winter) was a pretty big deal, in a region where it got plenty cold, and a time when there wasn’t the ease of electricity, central heating, a gas stove and electric fridge, or…
