Mary Magdalene

A Culture-Shifting Rebel Who Inspired A LOT of People (You May Have Heard About Him)

I appreciated and enjoyed reading Robert Alan Rife's InnerWoven post about a particular historical culture-shifter who: • defied hatred with love, • practiced inclusion and invitation rather than exclusion, • annoyed the Powers That Be (of his time) by opposing... Continue Reading →

The Feast and the New Greening (Freshly Re-Greened)

"We cannot live in a world that is not our own, in a world that is interpreted for us by others. An interpreted world is not HOME. Part of the terror is to take back our own listening, to use... Continue Reading →

BlogShare: Another False Prophet Bites the Dust (From EER blog)

Bobbie explores the 'outing' of yet another celebrity faux-guru, along with the greed-reveal of a miserly celebrity American bling-worshipping, integrity-challenged mega-church preacher, in her The Shift Has Hit the Fan blog post, "Another One Bites the Dust." This, along with... Continue Reading →

Mary Magdalene: Remembering the ‘Heroine of the Faith’

July 22nd is designated as the 'feast day' for Mary Magdalene or Mariamene e Mara (which means Mariamne the Master) in various traditions that include feast days (and for those outside of those various traditions, too). The Wikipedia snapshot notes... Continue Reading →

Florence Nightingale and Modern Science on Harmful Effects of Noise + Benefits of Quiet.

Remembering Mary Magdalene, and Meeting Her Anew

July 22nd is, traditionally, Mary Magdalene's feast day, and that's coming up soon. She has been spiraling back into our awareness and consciousness for more than one day a year, though, and for more than a few years. When something,... Continue Reading →

Water Does Not Resist … and Other Water Wisdom

“Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and... Continue Reading →

Shining Heart: The Morning Star Rises in My Heart

The Theologian Walter Wink and others have spoken of The Third Way - a radical concept in our (too often) "either/or", win-lose culture. Some traditions refer to the Divine Spark or Inner Light within us, which is hidden from us,... Continue Reading →

The Wise-Woman Way of Mary Magdalene

July 22 is the historical feast day of Mary Magdalene, so it's very fitting to share this updated post from the early days of Sophia's Children. Not that we need confine such celebrations and honorings to one day. After all,... Continue Reading →

Reclaiming Wisdom: Medusa, Metis, Mehda

First question: How is the ancient (and timeless) notion of 'Sovereign Feminine Wisdom' connected to the energy, archetype, and story of Medusa - the 'gorgon-headed' one of myth? Second question: Why is this both timeless and very relevant right now,... Continue Reading →

What Makes a Mystic … and a Feminine Mystic?

What makes a "Feminine Mystic?" This is the question that writer Carl McColman asked Mirabai Starr, author, speaker, mystic, and translator of the mystics, in a Patheos interview. This is an excerpt from Starr's reply. "Mysticism is about a direct... Continue Reading →

Janus – Looking Back, Looking Forward + a 10-Year Anniversary

January is named for the Roman deity Janus, who stands with one face looking back, one face looking forward, but planted solidly right where he is at the moment. So it makes sense that Janus would be associated with transitions,... Continue Reading →

Perdita and Our Divine Gifts

This is such a beautiful and evocative painting from Sandys. I saw it when I was browsing images in my files and, though I wasn't aware at the time its connection with Winter and, in a way, the Spirit of... Continue Reading →

QuoteWorthy: “The older I become…”

Dream Idyll - A Valkyrie, 1902, by Edward Robert Hughes.
Dream Idyll – A Valkyrie, 1902, by Edward Robert Hughes.

Another ‘Tis the Time and Season‘ reflection, stirred and updated from the Sophia’s Children treasure-vaults (so very Uranus-Pluto!).

Whether we’re in the deep-Yin season of Winter, settling into night from day, or in a Winter-season in our own lifecycle journey, it’s always wise to honor the restoration that will otherwise stalk and have its way with us in other (usually less pleasant) ways.

Plus, Wisdom and Wisdom-sourced vision gestate from and are more easily called up in this season, and with the current archetypal energies in which we dance and swirl right about now.

Happy dancing, swirling, and deep restoration.

Big Love and Be Well,
Jamie

“The older I become,

the more I sense,

the less I speak,

the more I pray —

in ever so many ways.”

I included this wonderful reflection from Clarissa Pinkola-Estes’ book Untie the Strong Woman in a previous Sophia’s Children post you might enjoy:

Storms, Cycles & Black Madonnas

And other mentions of Clarissa Pinkola-Estes in my Reasserting Our Wildish Nature post, and in an homage to the honoring of Deep Yin and the Circadian Rhythms of Winter, in the Sophia’s Children treasure vaults.

A Musingly Yours,

Jamie
