It’s a fine time for drawing up insight and guidance from the depths, and sustenance from our very roots.

Reflecting back a couple of years ago, I had the privilege and joy of giving the Sunday lesson for a wonderful group here on this very topic — deep roots, and the power of blessing.

The Energies of Now support us even more than usual in that gathering back and sinking roots. More on that just below.

But first … if ‘to hallow’ is ‘to make holy or sacred, to sanctify or consecrate, to venerate,’ …

What might we want to ‘make holy’, sanctify, consecrate, bless, or venerate?

What might we be, by default, venerating or worshipping that might not be worthy of that devotion … or might even be unhealthy and toxic?

As the fabulously gifted and insightful Gen-Xer David Foster Wallace said, we all worship something, and given that, it might be more desirable to do that consciously and intentionally.

Here are his words …

“In the day-to-day trenches of adult life, there is actually no such thing as atheism. There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship. And an outstanding reason for choosing some sort of God or spiritual-type thing to worship — be it J.C. or Allah, be it Yahweh or the Wiccan mother-goddess or the Four Noble Truths or some infrangible set of ethical principles — is that pretty much anything else you worship will eat you alive.” ~ David Foster Wallace

We always have access to such gifts as intuition, discernment, and inspiration, though for many generations these Divinely given gifts were demonized, and that’s a tragic loss that’s haunted many generations since.

There are times, like now, when the Energies of Now facilitate easier access to the ‘thin veils’ and liminal potency, visioning, energy work, accessing deeply held intuition and body wisdom, and other such arts of the Wise Wo/man path.

Here’s a freshly updated musing on the deep, deep roots of All Hallow’s, or All Souls, from which we might draw fresh vision, courage, strength, and inspiration.

Ancestral Wisdom and Deep, Deep Roots

Nowadays, with so much wisdom forgotten, many people think of Samhain or the cross-quarters as evidence of “pagan” ancestors or “ancestor worship.”

Or, among those who self-describe as more learned or intellectual,  such seasonal festivals might be seen as holdovers from more “primitive” or “superstitious” times.

That’s all so much inaccurate thinky-thinky blah-blah that, caught up in the fog of self-righteousness, misses the point entirely.

Starting October 31st on the calendar, and/or when the Sun reaches mid-Scorpio (15 degrees) in the Northern Hemisphere’s Autumn Season, we note the Samhain, or All Hallow’s, All Souls, or All Saints festival. The ‘Hallow’een’ of modern times.

This year, 2021, the solar or astrological cross-quarter midpoint occurs over November 6th at about 12:48 p.m (Eastern Standard Time), so you can find your local time using The Time Now’s converter.

This All Hallow’s week — if you go from the calendar Samhain or Hallow’een on October 31st through the solar Samhain that non-clock-time ancestors would have used — begins with the new moon in the Scorpio Mysteries zone on Thursday, November 4th, 2021.

So it’s a liminal-zone  … a ‘thin time’ … perfect for visioning, spiritual practice, cultivating (as my Qigong Grandmaster would say), and perhaps more easily accessing other medial-Feminine gifts like intuition, inner guidance, ‘seeing’, and energy work.
