“So this is how the healers who are attempting to be born are treated in this culture.”
“What a loss that a person who is finally being aligned with a power from the other world is just being wasted.”
~ Dagara Elder, Malidoma Patrice Somé
Though important for all empath-sensitives — so read on — this is a particularly important perspective now for those of us born in the mid-Sixties, who have the unique cocktail of Chiron in Pisces, Neptune in Scorpio, North Node in Cancer, and the Uranus-Pluto-in-Virgo conjunction.
A sub-set of this group also has Jupiter in Pisces opposite Uranus-Pluto, which adds to the rebel-transformer, unity-consciousness, empath-sensitive nature.
A similarly sensitive sub-group are those among the early Millennials born in 1989 +/- with the stellium in Capricorn, Jupiter and Chiron in Cancer, and Pluto in Scorpio.
This group of pre-Millennials has more in common with their Gen-X core-group older brothers and sisters than with the rest of their Millennial cohort, with the heightened sensitivity and the Capricorn trait of being older than and having innate wisdom beyond their ‘calendar years’ age.
Others with a fair amount of ‘Water in the chart’ would align with this experience as well.
These are a potentially super-sensitive, visionary, and ‘born-healer’ (or mystic, or shaman) combination, with enough Earth-element self-facets to reflect a purpose of bringing that sensitivity, vision, healing perception to transform (or provide remedy to the ills of) the structures and organizations of these times.
The mid-Sixties-born Generation-Xers have recently or are now moving through the life-milestone and ‘wake-up call’ of the Chiron Return.
Some Chiron in Pisces natives are in the pivotal years leading up to their Chiron in Pisces Return, when lots of patterns are revealed and cycles of experience integrated (and deepened).
This particular mid-Sixties-born group was called the ‘slackers’, and has been called ‘the Lost Generation’ and the Invisible Generation — though it’s the original core group of the larger group deemed by demographers and marketers to be Generation X (including the 70s-born Uranus-Pluto in Libra group, which is its own soul-group that fertility and marketing demographics ignore by lumping it into Gen-X).

To me — part of this very group and having just passed beyond an extended Chiron Return — those of us born in the mid-Sixties with Chiron in Pisces and the ‘Magi’ combo of Uranus-Pluto-conjunct-in-Virgo and Neptune in Scorpio, are not so much lost as we were, have been, or are still sleeping, or even more accurate perhaps, incubating … integrating the life experience and Chirotic ‘wounds’ that are transmuted into wisdom and medicine through and after the Chiron Return.
The Chiron Return is one of the thresholds where the ‘wound’ is transmuted from ‘poison’ into ‘medicine’ and offered in a spirit of service and healing in whatever way is appropriate to an individual’s purpose and vocation. That’s the invitation, anyway.
For Chiron in Pisces, the ‘original wound’ is often some kind of a separation from Spirit, disrespected and violated boundaries, being unseen … invisible, being ‘Narcissist Supply’, and/or the denigration of the inherent gifts of vision, empathic sensitivity, and an innate capacity for working with energy.
For the pre/early Millennial (1989 +/1), the Chiron in Cancer ‘original wound’ is often related to a lack of nurturing and often some sort of absence of the feminine and/or the mother, and perhaps a rejection of their own tender heartedness (and other empathic-sensitivity, given the rest of the Water in their blueprints).
At the Chiron Return, which the 60’s born Chiron in Pisces peeps have been experiencing (or did, or will soon), the journeyer has the potential to go through the doorway from youth and experience-gatherer to experienced teacher and wise-woman, wise-man, or elder.
That said, these sorts of experiences described by Malidoma Patrice Somé in the following excerpt and the full article, are often experienced by the more empathically sensitive among us throughout our lives — those who are physiologically wired to be more aware of, and sensitive to, subtle energies, other’s thoughts and emotions (stated or unstated, and so on.
He says the spiritual awakenings for these people is about “a very ancient ancestral energy that has been placed in stasis, that finally is coming out in the person. … “most of the fabric of this country is made up of the energy of the machine, and the result of that is the disconnection and the severing of the past. You can run from the past, but you can’t hide from it.”
You know who you are, and yes, there’s a physiological as well as an astrological reason and purpose that that sensitivity.
When Journeys & Returns Go Awry (or Do They?)

But some of these empathic-sensitives ‘click on’ or go through the inevitable periods of more intense activation, heightened sensitivity, and don’t have guides, mentors, spiritual foundation, or some sort of innate resilience that sees them through these Dark Night initiations … the part of the journey that meanders through the Valley of the Shadow, of Death.
Instead, some on that path are deemed mentally ill and pharma’d (which may be appropriate treatment for some, but very unhelpful for those in spiritual awakening, per the spiritual emergency work of Dr. Stanislav Grof and others).
Journeys, Returns & Sensitivity Perspectives
So whether you’re being awakened to a new level of integration, wisdom, and perhaps service at the midlife milestone of the Chiron in Pisces Return, or you’re an empath-sensitive of any age, you might appreciate what Dr. Somé shares in the excerpt below and the full article about how an analytical, bully-normalizing culture deals with what those from another perspective or culture see as Divine gifts in a state of awakening or heightening.

More on my fellow Chiron-in-Pisces Returnees and sleeping-giant Sixties Babies coming up.
In the meanwhile, here’s what Dr. Somé shares about his first visit to see a friend in a mental hospital.
“The Western culture has consistently ignored the birth of the healer,” states Dr. Somé.
“Consequently, there will be a tendency from the other world to keep trying as many people as possible in an attempt to get somebody’s attention. They have to try harder.”
“The spirits are drawn to people whose senses have not been anesthetized. The sensitivity is pretty much read as an invitation to come in,” he notes.”
“Those who develop so-called mental disorders are those who are sensitive, which is viewed in Western culture as oversensitivity. Indigenous cultures don’t see it that way and, as a result, sensitive people don’t experience themselves as overly sensitive.”

“In the West, “it is the overload of the culture they’re in that is just wrecking them,” observes Dr. Somé.
“The frenetic pace, the bombardment of the senses, and the violent energy that characterize Western culture can overwhelm sensitive people.”

More soon for my fellow waking giants of the Chiron in Pisces and mid-Sixties-born, and all of you who feel out-of-alignment with a less-humane, tech-sociopathic, Earth-and-heart-disconnected time and culture. It’s those very latter traits and realities that make your gifts, your innate sensitivity and insight, and your unique wisdom and medicine, more necessary than ever.

Update: Lots of synchronicity around this post. It’s been on my list for quite awhile, and I’d seen the article featuring Malidoma Patrice Somé – What a Shaman Sees in a Mental Hospital.
As I was drafting this, a musing from Pamela Carruthers of Healing Stars came in, sharing a bittersweet story about her own mother’s Chiron Return and also referencing Dr. Somé‘s article! So I know the timing must be just right. Thank you, Pam!
Happy Journeying.

Great post, Jamie. I love Dr. Some’s work. Thank you for encouraging us sensitives to step into our true state of being.
During my Neptune Squares the Sun transit, I was sure I was going crazy. I was so sensitive and psychic it was extremely difficult to deal with. Coupled with heavy Scorpio energy throughout my whole chart, I felt I could merge with almost anyone and was way too receptive to the otherworlds. I am so glad Dr. Some’s work is out there and encourages those who faced my same struggles.
Thank you, Jamie.
Happy Chiron Return to you!

Hey there, Amanda.
Thank you; I’m glad you enjoyed and resonated with the post, and have an appreciation for Malidoma Some’s work (and speaking of Somes, Sobonfu Some’s work is wonderful as well, particularly for the Feminine lens).
I have Sun square Neptune in my natal chart, and when Neptune in Aqua transited my Sun-Saturn and then moved into square with my moon — a crazy-wild passage of heightened sensitivity. That set up a whole new repertoire of energy and shamanic work though (like a lot of people, I’d blocked or ‘back burnered’ the sensitivity for a long time).
So I can fully appreciate what you’re talking about with that Sun-Neptune square and the amped up sensitivity you experienced. I’d bet you, too, came out of it (if the square is done) with a new perspective, too. 🙂
Thanks for the ‘happy Chiron return’. I’m glad I’m on this side of it, and happy to hold the lantern and sprinkle breadcrumbs on the path for others, too.
Thanks for chiming in, Amanda.
Love,
Jamie

I love this Jamie! I wrote a paper on this topic for grad school : mental illness and spirituality, the over lap and how it differs over cultures. If you want to chat about it, please email me! love the synchronicity. While I am a few years ahead, I know many born with that alignment, such powerful intense souls with such charisma and healing potential, often quite wounded as well. But as you know Chiron can be activated to transform the wound into gold. Very happy to read your post today, love, Linda

Hi Linda! Thanks for visiting and adding your voice to the conversation. That’s quite the synchronicity about the focus of your graduate school paper. I’ll likely write more on the topic (since I’ve written lots and then this recent post as well!), so welcome you to share anything you think might be helpful to those in the ‘wake up zone’ or going through passages of electrified sensitivity.
I learned a whole lot about it not only through my studies with indigenous elders/traditions, but also from living with someone who went into full-blown spiritual emergency, complete with what the psychiatric world calls ‘psychotic episodes’ (and my elder-mentor called ‘possession’!). That’s when I became familiar with Dr. Grof’s work as well, and ended up mentoring others with family members or partners experiencing spiritual emergency.
It’s quite something; I’m sure your research is invaluable! Has the research/paper informed your work, writing, and/or path as well?
Love,
Jamie

It seems we have more in common than I knew 🙂 It has informed my work as a therapist and healer. I really enjoyed the ideas of Dr. John Weir Perry especially. He also contributed to the book Spiritual Emergencies that was part of my research. I also collaborated on a book that was never completed , which contained numerous interviews with folks who had experiences that could go in either direction. This also strongly informs my path.
Your work with indigenous people sounds fascinating!

Linda

That’s really wonderful, Linda, and I can imagine that research and work for the paper and the book has informed your work as a therapist and healer!
To be sure, I’ve been fortunate to have several indigenous elders/leaders, wisdom keepers, etc. come into my path as mentors and teachers, from several traditions … and at the perfect times here and there over the last 20 years.
Those I work with as mentor, teacher, guide, though, are almost all in and from Western ‘developed world’ culture, coming into or through the Dark Night initiation into their innate gifts. That’s where the Indigenous perspective from various cultures has been really helpful … including shining light on the ‘West’s’ own indigenous wisdom traditions that were buried along the way.
We’ll connect via email so you can share more with me about your grad work and book manuscript.
Love,
Jamie

Jamie, I can’t thank you enough for this post! I had focused on the house placement of Chiron in my chart and the wound that it represents. I hadn’t paid much attention on the Chiron in Pisces aspect. I have been figuring out my heightened sensitivity and empathic gifts that have become so much more pronounced in recent years — like there’s no escaping it. I have been gathering my thoughts, researching and gathering materials to gain clarity. I have also been wanting to blog about it but was all over the place. And I just had a light bulb moment through your post. I’ve gone back to all the articles, reports and books that I’ve read about Chiron/Chiron Return. It’s now so much clearer to me how much of a Chiron in Pisces wound it is, how it has expressed itself in my life, how I have escaped it, and how I am now healing it — yet another piece in completing the puzzle, yay! 😀 Thanks so much dear and looking forward to reading more of your musings for us ‘sleeping-giant Sixties Babies’! 🙂 Much L <3 ve and Blessed be. 😀 :star: <3 :star: 😀 NadineMarie

Hey there, Nadine Marie.
Yay, indeed! I’m so glad the post spoke to you and lit one of those ‘light bulb moments’.
Definitely, Chiron in Pisces is an inherently sensitive ‘Wounded Healer’, meaning an innate sensitivity to subtle energies, etc. People with other ‘sensitivity markers’ along with Chiron in Pisces will be particularly sensitive, empathic, psychic; while others may only have the Chiron Pisces as a sensitivity facet so may not feel it as much.
You’ve likely got more than one ‘sensitivity’ markers in your chart, from what you’ve shared, and it sounds like one or several have been getting activated in recent years.
And yes, it’s such a great clue, isn’t it? And such a relief to know!
Thanks for stopping by, as always, Nadine Marie. I’m so glad the light bulb illuminated your Chiron Pisces journey and progress so far! More soon on our ‘mid-Sixties’ (late 62 thru 68, thereabouts) Chiron Pisces Etc. Crew and the ‘great waking’ potential through the Chiron Return!
Wishing you very well in the meanwhile.
Love,
Jamie

My moon & Neptune are in Scorpio/12th house. Sensitivity/psychic galore indeed Jamie! 🙂 I have paid attention only to my Chiron Return in recent years. I have not paid attention to other placements. As you said, I’m sure these placements have been/are being activated.
Yes, what a relief indeed Jamie! Huuuge relief! Again, thanks a great deal to you and your post! <3
Always happy to stop by Jamie. 🙂 Your site is one of my fav’s! <3 I do want to comment and engage more than I have, but my introverted side keeps me from doing so. I spend time gathering my thoughts, drafting them out, editing, re-editing, and by the time I’m ready to post them, I already need to start doing the same for your next post! 🙂 This comment is a classic example. I’ve had this in my mind since I first read your response the other day, and I’m only now finally posting it before getting to your next post. Thankfully, I beat you to it! 😀 LOL
Again, thanks for your writing and sharing Jamie. Ever-grateful for awesome souls like you who generously share their work as they most certainly are helping us a great deal in illuminating our paths. 🙂 <3 Looking forward to reading more and connecting and musing with you!
Blessed be. 😀 :star: <3 :star: 😀

Thank you, Nadine Marie. Oh, definitely … Chiron in Pisces, and both Moon and Neptune in Scorpio, in Neptune’s own 12th house (I always see the 12th house as having one of our biggest ‘satellite dishes’ retasked for picking up messages from Deep Space … our own little SETI program!). Those are some sensitivity-rich placements, plus the addition of Neptune and Chiron by transit in Pisces now, too.
I’m glad it feels like a relief to have that bit of ‘intel’ … a little relief is really, really good these days, isn’t it? (I say a big ‘yes’ to that myself!). 🙂
Looking forward musing and connecting and co-encouraging and other lovely interactions.
Big Love (so Neptune!),
Jamie
