For many horizon-edge walkers and vision-seeders, transformation agents, and similar culture-shifters, or just people trying to be decent and kind in a culture and world that seems too-often indecent and insane, transformation fatigue, apathy, and burnout are occupational hazards, ever nipping at our heels.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and become fatigued, numbed, or heavy hearted at what seems a daunting task in the face of myriad epic challenges that roll in like waves from the ocean.

I’m pretty resilient, and devoted to the practices that allow and support navigating it all with some smidge of skillfulness, kindness, and perspective, but sometimes I — like all of us — feel the bone-weariness of transformation fatigue, vision-drought, and other occupational hazards.

I’ve learned from experience that dipping often into the deep, rich wellsprings of inspiration from our kindred-spirit edge walkers and vision-seeders is vital … as are other disciplines and practices that help us to be as we are (and as we’re here on this planet, at this time, to be).

Sharing that inspiration, and pointing the way to other wellsprings, is the other part of that reciprocity or ayni balance — and it’s one of the main purposes of Sophia’s Children.

In this deep-wellspring spirit, here is a much-shared and highly inspiring excerpt from Do Not Lose Heart, from the wise woman and author, Clarissa Pinkola-Estes.

“Believe the evidence of any one of your past testings and trials. Here it is: Are you still standing? The answer is, Yes! (And no adverbs like “barely” are allowed here). If you are still standing, ragged flags or no, you are able. Thus, you have passed the bar. And even raised it. You are seaworthy.”

“Soul on deck shines like gold in dark times. … To display the lantern of soul in shadowy times like these – to be fierce and to show mercy toward others, both– are acts of immense bravery and greatest necessity. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it. If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do.”
