“All spiritual traditions, including Christianity, have shamanic roots. When the roots are fed, they sink deeper into sacred ground.”
~ Bradford Keeney, Shamanic Christianity
Let’s have a blessing-bath with that last sentence for a minute … let the essence of it settle around you like a soft, cozy wrap on a cold day.
“When the roots are fed, they sink deeper into sacred ground.”
I first came across Keeney’s book, Shamanic Christianity, when I was still living in my longtime home town, San Francisco.
The book stalked me.
Tenaciously. It became a bit of Divine Humor. It turned up in front of my face everywhere, including in bookstore sections where it had clearly been misfiled.
Uh-huh. We know how The Holy Divine as Merry Trickster works.
Finally I got the message — I can be dense like that sometimes — and said, “Oh for God’s sake! FINE!” and bought the book. (For the record, I was smiling when I said that!)
It was a Merry Trickster blessing, and wisdom-rich as well.
In recent days I was nudged to pull it back off my own bookshelf and revisit it. And early into the book, that particular sentence stopped me in my tracks.
“When the roots are fed, they sink deeper into sacred ground.”
Honestly, it’s the sort of notion that, if it catches me at just the right time and in just the right state of being, makes me want to fall to my knees from the beauty of it.
I’m weird that way..
It’s not in itself a formal blessing, that sentence, but if it seeps deeply enough, stirs something in you, then it’s pure blessing. You’ll see.
So …a root-feeding blessing on us:
May we find it more and more easy to feed the roots, and find ourselves more and more deeply aware that we’re always standing on, rooted in, born from, and sustained by sacred ground.
Big Love,
Jamie

Such a beautiful tree Jamie and message. I spent yesterday at Longwood Gardens and was surrounded by the most splendid trees and plants. Rootedness is important, especially those more comfortable in the mental intellectual realms. Thank you!

Mmmm, that sounds like a lovely way to enjoy a day, at the gardens with the trees and plant spirits. Definitely helps with the rootedness! And yes indeed, it’s as important an issue as ever right about now, given the super-heightened synthetic tech etc. trons. Rooted beings help us regain the balance. xoxo Love, Jamie

Wonderful Jamie… Makes so much sense.. and as any gardener knows, if the roots don’t get the nourishment they need the plant whither’s away.. 🙂 Enjoy your Sunday <3

Gardeners and farmers often have a greater sense of such things if they’re truly making those connections (and you know well on this one, yes?). xoxo Jamie

Beautiful, Jamie. And thank you for articulating something on my mind this week : everywhere is sacred. So I love that you did an expansion on that very same subject here.
And you can tell if it’s God by the fruit of the tree!
“May we find it more and more easy to feed the roots, and find ourselves
more and more deeply aware that we’re always standing on, rooted in, born from, and sustained by sacred ground.”
Beautiful blessing. Thanks Jamie!

Thank you, Dayna, and you’re welcome, too. 🙂 True enough, yes? We will know them by their (consistently sprouted) fruits!
The holy ground, sacred ground is a beautiful reflection and meditation, I agree. One of my favorites (handy to have a roster of them in the works these days!).
I’m glad this one was a ‘sync’ for you.
Lots of love,
Jamie
