There are all types of blessings … the lovely kind that stirs our heart and raises our energy quality, of course.
But tw0 of my other favorite types of blessing include, (1) one that comes from a sharp wit, often born of challenge, that creates that helpful perceptual shift … the ‘change of mind’ and thus focus and energy; and (2) what’s called Crazy Wisdom.
Teresa of Avila is one who clearly had a pretty sharp wit. Maybe she had a fair bit of Crazy Wisdom, too.
And given the exceptionally challenging reality of her life — ecstatic visions, higher perceptions, and the constant barbs from ‘nattering nabobs of negativity‘ around her and the very real and serious danger of the Inquisition, which was often close on her heels — her sharp wit and sense of humor were vital medicine, and also very instructive to those of us ‘down the line’ in new transformation times.

In her writings, Teresa of Avila tells of a particular conversation she was having with Jesus, which she did often.
So there she was, complaining to Jesus about the negativity and nasty, often malicious gossip of some nattering nabobs around her, and Jesus replied to her, “Teresa, that’s how I treat my friends.”
Teresa of Avila famously quipped back to Jesus, “Well if that’s how you treat your friends, it’s no wonder you have so few of them!”
Sometimes the sharp wit and snappy comeback are the perfect blessing medicine.

Sharp wit eh? We call that moon in Gemini medicine 🙂
I like St. Teresa of Avila and have read a little about her. I bet she would be so much fun to hang out with in a coffee shop. Mysticism mixed with humor, a marriage made in heaven.

Gemini moon with a healthy splash of Scorpy-Pluto, I’d think. 😉 Mystics and wit (whatever flavored, but I’m guessing at least some of it would be sharp wit or what we might call ‘gallows humor’) seems a natural combo!
If you resonate with St. Teresa of Avila, I highly recommend Barbara Mujica’s novel, Sister Teresa. Definitely shows that weave of wit and mysticism, and what that’d have been like living during the Inquisition. Check it out. 🙂

When I was catholic she was one of the saints I liked, patron saint and so was Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha. Thanks for sharing Jamie.

One of the lovely things about the Catholic tradition, worth rediscovering, perhaps, is that some of the Mystics were, indeed, the Wisdom keepers … many during times when it was dangerous and tricky to have that calling and role. I do very much honor and appreciate that (though I wasn’t raised Catholic, my path intersected enough that I might have been!). xoxo J

Thanks for the unexpected blessing! You know, it doesn’t always hurt to have that nicely crafted edge. 😉
I’ve got a Mercury/Pluto thing going on ~ well. We’ve already formerly discussed my well-aspected Mercury (trine Uranus…etc.etc) Let’s just say I always look at the bright side ~ my Leo sun ~ even when working with squares. I have to do drama that way: with a smile 😀 and working with edges, while walking on ledges 😀
St. Teresa of Avila really embodies that courage in authenticity. Thanks for this blessing, Jamie!

I agree, Ka, and I appreciate your wording there … “that nicely crafted edge.” At the very least (provided it’s not too razor-sharp!), that ‘gallows humor’ helps us navigate tougher stuff (keeps me sane … or helps, anyway!).
“…working with edges, while walking on ledges.”
Love it. 🙂
