I’m sharing a couple of things today – a bit about the current ‘energy weather’, plus my fellow blogger Anne Whitaker’s musing and beautiful photographs from her recent ‘travel therapy’ visit to the cathedral of Salisbury, England.
Anne’s lovely post offered me (and you) a sweet mini-revisit with the Prisoners of Conscience chapel and its unexpected Black Madonna. More on that below.
First, for those who are sensitive to Earth energies and subtle (and thus not so subtle) energies, it’s been yet another intense week.
Different people notice different things, but in recent days I’ve heard from more than a few people who sensed a building energy and restlessness, wakeful nights, mid to late last week, and then waves of sudden fatigue, lethargy, sadness, or outright feelings of despair, since the strong and deadly earthquake in Nepal on Saturday and its devastating aftermath for the people there.
There are, as always, other things in the ‘cocktail’ that contributes to or affects the collective or shared energy field, and thus the jumble that sensitives are picking up, but Earth events like those of the last week elevate the intensity.
If you’re an Earth/energy sensitive, what have you experienced, or what are you sensing? What helps you to be aware and to balance or ground?
One of the things that’s helped me greatly has been being aware of how different energies affect me — how I pick them up, what their signatures are; and then building a good ‘magic backpack’ of practices, resources, and tools for ‘energy hygiene’ — you’ll find some of those in the Empaths & Sensitives Series, or a more personalized session with me.

Thanks for putting that in context – for the week prior to the Nepal quake, I’d been feeling different/distinct Earth vibrations in Los Angeles. That week here also saw unnatural weather patterns and a very barfy dog (which further clued me in). Headaches at base of skull alternating since. Went and got some hematite, started working with Herkimer Diamond (having never used crystals to do Reiki before…), and yesterday got to a favorite spot above the ocean, to sit on the grass with a book and the eclectic trees there. So, in summary: making new introductions to some rocks and also spending time in favorite/sacred places….but still feeling agitated at home. Things have gotten very very weird in this town, especially in the past two weeks….

Thanks for sharing what you’ve noticed and were (or are) experiencing related to these energies. I noted in today’s spaceweather.com update that the Nepal quake registered in the Earth’s ionosphere just like strong solar events do, so it makes sense that the more sensitive among us would notice it.
I noticed a couple of years ago, maybe with the Chile and Haiti quakes, that several earth-sensitive women had felt the building restlessness, wakeful nights, etc. in the days prior, so we started paying attention and comparing notes on it.
I’m glad the ‘diminishing mirrors’ post(s) felt helpful and timely (they often are for me as well!). 🙂

Sending love to Nepal….I just today forwarded a link to your Black Madonna pieces; someone asked me the question of how we go about changing the language surrounding “dark is bad.” (I think her exact words were, “How do we fix English?”) I for one am very excited to be having these dialogues! Hey there, Dayna. Thank you, and you’re welcome you’re welcome. 🙂 It does seem (energetically) to have calmed a bit, though a well-connected full moon has a vibrant energetic signature of its own. Thank you for forwarding the Black Madonna page/pieces. “How do we fix English?” That’s an amusing way to put it. Definitely one possible way is to reclaim the words in their earlier/healthier definitions, and to share information as we’re doing. Your message also has me thinking about the more recent neuroscience in some of these areas … the prevalence of fear-based thinking seems to create an abundance of “xyz is bad” etc. (and the practices that foster the higher/newer (vs. survival-oriented) thinking creates a more spacious, compassionate, empathetic frame (I’ve blogged on Andrew Newberg’s book/work and others, as in this post: http://sophias-children.com/2013/12/02/our-negativity-bias-and-remarkable-good/). These are just a few quick thoughts … no doubt many more! Your sense of it, or the ideas that bubble up for you?

HI Jamie, many thoughts! Yes, weird wily few weeks. Great article, though I would like to say that the lizards in my yard are very calm and thoughtful. 🙂 Hardwired “like velcro for negative experiences.” We’re hardwired for fear! So, the manipulation of our survival instincts is barreling us down a path of our destruction? (That’s quite the irony. I support more people thinking God has a wicked sense of humor)….great information on how not to get manipulated. I especially liked the part about fear-based shopping, where our amygdala feels we NEED that for our survival. It is rather about flipping the script, isn’t it? “While the brain registers negative experiences and potential threats immediately because of those well-established neuro-pathways, the positive experiences register only when we focus our attention and energy on them for at least 12 seconds.” Hence the word ‘mindful,’ rather than ‘mind full.’ From that I take that the primary thing is to be present. Anything pulling you in different directions = adrenal/amygdala overdrive (like simply driving down the street in LA: billboards/noise/billboards/noise….or even just alerts in your email or pop-ups on youTube….) = not changing the script.
Also amusing/ironic why people like horror movies; it’s the adrenaline rush…compare that to the first films, like the Great Train Robbery, a man pointed a gun at the camera/audience and fired…and whole theatres of people in 1903 ran out screaming! Your brain registers this as happening to you. (It still does in 2015 too!)
But you first have to be aware you’re being manipulated, then take the 12x longer to counteract your fear response, and then continue to be aware. What’s your take on that? To bring it back to this article: information! Especially for the sensitive folks who would be picking up more/earlier information…
A spiritual director I once knew explained prayer as a tool to form new neuropathways. I like that. My little lizard brain likes the context and even the science, but most especially the information. So thank you for sharing! xxooo

Thank you Dayna – I’m appreciating your rich contribution to the ongoing conversation here. I was just about finished with a reply and zap! disappeared into cyberspace. So here’s another … take 2.
I really appreciate that bit you shared from the spiritual director who said “prayer is a tool to form new neuropathways.” It does seem the case … certain types of prayer and various other practices long known and advised in the ancient spiritual and wisdom traditions and now validated in their affects by modern neuroscience (that’s so cool, isn’t it?). Andrew Newberg, M.D.’s book How God Changes Your Brain gives a really excellent overview on that (along with the approaches and practices that fall into that fear-stirring category, too).
And really exciting, you’re right, to know that the awareness-raising information, the mindfulness, and then practice helps to create that space … that 14 seconds … so we can access the more resourceful mind/brain/body state to make really more discerning decisions (as best we can) along with accessing intuition, empathy, creative thinking and other divine gifts of the (so called) ‘new brain’.
It’s amazing and cool. 🙂
Are you a Gemini moon and/or Aquarian something? We tend to really like the intel like this kind of thing.

Hi Jamie, thank you kindly, and right back at you. That was well put: that the meditation and etc. creates the space to intentionally create those neuropathways/rewiring work. That makes much sense. You are not your DNA! And I also like your further answer to the question about changing “dark is bad” — by reclaiming that right brain empathy, intuition, big picture vision. You called it the ‘new brain’? Is that something other than using our good old right brain?
I checked out Dr Newburg’s work, thanks — I agree it’s nice to have the language specifically in order to communicate with more and more people. And the more science types who can see things this way, the more healed of a world we’d be, yes? I had to smile at the video recommendation in the sidebar: “the Police – Ghost in the Machine + Synchronicity – full album.” Plus, ‘full album’ always sounds like ‘full moon’ to me!
And heehee: my only Gemini is my South Node (Pisces sun)…though maybe that’s right on topic with the Black Madonna? Reclaiming our gifts for the highest good…I feel like there’s an unburying and soil nurturing metaphor under there too… 😉

Ghosts in the Machine … that’s pretty funny (given the reference). I really appreciate Andrew Newberg’s work, and that book in particular, and similar ‘intel’ as well.

Jamie, thanks once again for the information/links. Excellent. I needed to reel in that left brain and let my right brain assimilate all this for a bit (or…other brain?). This post has taken on more and more meaning as the weeks unfold…You? Anyone? Energy Weather check in? Much unnatural in the sky here (more and more out in the open…). Also interesting your phrase there, ‘when survival isn’t really threatened.’ Which got me thinking in a more general sense about our survival in the here and now. It feels like Nature and her adversaries are both stepping things up these recent weeks…

Thank you, Dayna. It sounds like some notion of inspiration is gestating in you, then … that the post continues to take on new or deepening meaning.
And maybe it’s time for an energy weather update, from the sound of it! It does seem that much is pushing, pulling, pressing, nudging, pecking at the shell, and so on.
I’ve heard from quite a few people who felt pulled into the depths of despair or angst or a heightened ‘electrical’ frequency (which can be challenging to hold that frequency if not grounded). Some of that is the last full moon through to dark moon (and into today’s new moon) … intense energies from the depths, but also just a lot of energy with Mars (shakti) in the push-pull mental realms of Gemini, and the Uranus-Pluto square still tight (so just because we’ve had the last exact square doesn’t mean that transformative ‘squeeze’ isn’t still present … it is!). So yup, intense. 🙂

Thanks for the reminder to get (extra! extra!) grounded. This week, I send out a call for prayer/intention/thoughts/mojo/goodwill for southern CA. I know every corner of the globe is hurting right now, and all of Earth needs our prayers; things have gotten very intense here (I was mid-letter when got news of the oil spill on the Santa Barbara coast). There’s a lot of energies floating around that I believe we can process with intention. I just wanted to remind myself and all of us that we always have a choice, and that everything we do in every moment matters. I choose love! Thank you for what you do, Jamie. much love!

Hey there, Dayna. Wow, yes, that’s not happy news with the oil spill and degradation off of Santa Barbara, and what’s already been killed off as a result. It makes ya just weep for it. Plus that news that the company has had so many violations since 2006 and nothing was done, so here we are.
I really appreciate your invitation and reminder that the Earth benefits from our prayers for wellness and wellbeing, and that we (empath-sensitives, mystics, etc.) often do process ‘floater energies’ and might better do so with intention and mindfulness.
I’m with you in choosing Love, and scattering those blessings and prayers and invitations when and where we can (and where we are!).

Yes to Big Love! (But noo to a 4 hour delay from two different alerts about the pipeline in Santa Barbara till it was shut off. And then barely any action taken till the next day, and then giving citations to people trying to help….grrrr.)
Having so many conversations — in LA — right now with people who are seeing the various strange goings-on (the bees went missing, others noticed dead bees….really happy to see a couple of them as of the weekend…). People are experiencing a lot of fear. While also saying that they don’t want to look at what they do see. So I say again and again that it’s important to acknowledge the fear, not feed into it, and continue to be aware in each moment that you have a choice. It only takes one match to light the dark….
Would you want to add to that? I did just read your Energy Weather update to someone here. Shakti is what jumped out at her. Indeed! Times of much chaos and therefore much opportunity. Here’s to choosing wisely!
